Are the New Indian States Ecologically Secured, Economically Efficient and Socially Equitable? (Assessment Using the Sustainable Livelihood Security Index Framework)

Sustainable Livelihood Security Index is one of the efficient and flexible frameworks to analyze a territory’s sustainable security encompassing the social equity, ecological security and economic efficiency heads. The focus of this study is to look into the sustainability of three newly formed states in the year 2000: Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand in the three heads mentioned. In the social equity index, all the states are performing equally well. In the case of ecological security, the state of Chhattisgarh is performing way ahead of Uttarakhand and Jharkhand. The economic efficiency head is led by Jharkhand, followed by Chhattisgarh in the second and Uttarakhand in the third. The results of the study can be utilized to formulate policies and frameworks to enrich the sustainable security of livelihoods in the respective states.
